Description of Significance ESTABLISHED IN 1897 BY THE WOMENS NATIONAL INDIAN ASSOCIATION, THIS MISSION WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE ASSOCIATED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF FRIENDS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF JOHN T. MARDOCK. THE MISSION WAS AIMED AT THE BIG JIM BAND OF THE ABSENTEE SHAWNEE, BUT GREW TO BECOME A CENTERPOINT OF A WHITE COMMUNITY IN THE AREA AS WELL. DURING WORLD WAR I, THE MISSION WAS THE CENTER OF A SOCIALIST AGRARIAN MOVEMENT THAT DWINDLED AWAY DURING THE 1920S AND 1930S. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 3/14/83.
